Our central HVAC systems are often the “fitted sheets” of architecture. They are designed to cover the whole footprint, but they almost always leave a corner exposed. They pull tight in the living room and the kitchen, but they leave the guest room or the home office bunching up with heat, sagging under the weight of poor circulation.
We try to fix this by turning the dial down for the whole house. We punish the living room with an Arctic blast just to get the back bedroom down to a livable temperature. It’s a brute-force solution to a surgical problem.

The Uncounted Data Points
I think about the “uncounted information” we generate every day. In workplaces, it’s the conference room that everyone avoids, not because it’s booked, but because it feels “stuffy.” In schools, it’s the back row of desks where the students are perpetually lethargic because the CO2 levels are spiking and the temperature is higher than the front of the room.
